Sauvage Eau de Parfum — Dior, 2018
Bergamot opens clean and sharp, the same bright citrus that defined the original Sauvage but this time it steps aside quickly. Sichuan pepper picks up where it leaves off, lifting into lavender, star anise and nutmeg. The heart is spicier and more layered than the 2015 eau de toilette, less linear, more willing to sit with you and change.
The base is where the two diverge entirely. Ambroxan returns, but Papua vanilla wraps around it, warm and resinous without tipping into sweetness. It dries down suede smooth, the kind of trail that lingers in a room after you've left it.
François Demachy, Dior's in house perfumer, designed the Eau de Parfum not as a replacement but as a second reading: oriental where the original was fresh, enveloping where it was sharp. Same name, different temperament.
